"The brain is a monstrous, beautiful mess. Its billions of nerve cells - called neurons - lie in a tangled web that displays cognitive powers far exceeding any of the silicon machines we have built to mimic it."
- William F. Allman -

When we thought about the site, the name we had in mind for the site was Braintree. But when trying to register the domain name, we found that the name and all the top-level domain extensions (like .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, etc.) were already taken. We searched for an acceptable alternative. Out of the various alternatives that were suggested, the one that we liked best was “braintreebooks”. We decided to take the name Braintree Books and registered the name as www.braintreebooks.com.

While brainstorming for a logo for Braintree Books, one of the ideas that came up was to use something connected to brain and tree. We referred some medical books to find the images of brain. The figure of the neuron, to be more specific the motor neuron, caught our attention.

It satisfied our two requirements for the logo-it was part of the brain and it looked like a tree. The structure of motor neuron and that of a tree was very striking with the axon terminals as roots of the tree, the axon with the myelin sheath forming the trunk, and the nucleus, cell body, and dendrites looking similar to the branches and leaves.

We decided to use the motor neuron as the logo for Braintree Books. We did not have to make too many modifications. We enjoyed making the logo and hope you would like it too.

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Oil those brains
Before they rust.
